24 Hour Holter monitoring

A Holter monitor is a portable electrocardiogram (ECG) and is used to continuously monitor a patient’s heart for the duration of 24-72 hours. The duration of the monitor is dependent on both your symptoms and the doctor’s evaluation for finding a suitable diagnosis. This is typically used for ongoing symptoms of palpitations, dizziness, presyncope or syncope evaluation. It is also used to diagnose several types of arrythmias.

Holter monitors are also used to assess:

  • The rhythm of the heart whilst patients conduct their usual daily activities.
  • Whether a rhythm disturbance is responsible for symptoms experienced.
  • To assess the effectiveness of medications on the heart rate and or the heart rhythm.
